An ordinary guy takes an extraordinary step through time in this science fiction thriller. Hector (Karra Elejalde) is spending a few days in the countryside with his girlfriend, Clara (Candela Fernández), when he sees something that catches his attention while playing with his binoculars. Looking at a nearby house near a wooded area, Hector spies a beautiful woman taking her clothes off, and decides to take a stroll and give her a closer look. However, when he arrives at the house several minutes later, the woman is lying in the grass and appears to either be dead or passed out. As Hector examines her, he's attacked by a strange man and flees on foot. Hector seeks refuge in a building that turns out to be a research facility owned by a mysterious scientist (Nacho Vigalondo), who gives him a place to hide inside a futuristic closet. However, Hector realizes it was actually a time-travel machine when he emerges a few minutes later and looks out the window to see himself standing over the unconscious woman in the distance. Los Cronocrimenes (aka Timecrimes) was the first feature film from writer and director Nacho Vigalondo, who also appears as the scientist. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

New Review For Movie Los Cronocrímenes (Timecrimes)

Very cool.
Roger Moore-Orlando Sentinel

The key here is to keep things moving without letting the logical (or illogical) complications weigh down the action, and [director] Vigalondo does this well.
Tom Long-Detroit News

The director operates his metaphysical contraption with enough wit to jolt away your skepticism.
Wesley Morris-Boston Globe

The modest satisfactions of Timecrimes come down to a protagonist divided against himself.
Michael Phillips-Chicago Tribune

Timecrimes is like a temporal chess game with nudity, voyeurism and violence, which makes it more boring than most chess games but less boring than a lot of movies.
Roger Ebert-Chicago Sun-Times

The idea isn't bad, and Vigalondo makes the pretzel logic of the situation lucid, but he doesn't have the chops to give the tale the suspense and humor it needs.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

Hector's insane time-travel journey is an excellent example of high-concept sci-fi.
Mike Edwards-What Culture

Watching "Timecrimes" is like stumbling in a pitch-black haunted house. Hitting walls where paths should be is fun, and time-travel tropes of choice versus fate are inventively goosed. Even with five minutes left, it could conclude in any number of ways.
Nick Rogers-Suite101.com

The idyllic but mundane world of the film's opening segues smoothly into a sequence out of a highly intelligent slasher film, before finally settling into its niche as a darkly funny, and at times mildly disturbing, sci-fi thriller.
Ian Buckwalter-DCist

That rarest of rare things: an intelligent time-travel movie that actually holds together on closer examination.
Ken Hanke-Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)

While I enjoyed the film a great deal, I honestly wonder if there'd be this amount of hoopla if the picture, say, starred a yamhead like Val Kilmer and was set in New Jersey.
Jordan Hoffman-UGO

A smart, occasionally thrilling science fiction tale...
David Nusair-Reel Film Reviews

A tight little movie where every setup is paid off
Marty Mapes-Movie Habit

As a director, Vigalondo sweeps you up into his tale and keeps you running at what seems like full speed toward the finish line.
Steve Biodrowski-Cinefantastique

Nacho Vigalondo's bleak time-travel thriller... [chronicles the travails of a] classic film noir schmuck: No matter what he does, sooner or later fate will stick out her foot and trip him up.
Maitland McDonagh-Miss FlickChick

His film is satisfying in its clever construction and vivid style.
Edward Porter-Sunday Times (UK)

The first feature by a promising young director who doesn't know how to recapture the hare he has let loose.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

A film that exemplifies the popular artistic notion of inescapable tragic destiny.
Robert Roten-Laramie Movie Scope

An enterprising Spanish time-travel thriller, that's light on DeLoreans and lightning bolts, but heavy on fiendish cross-currents of temporal interaction.
Andrew Pulver-Guardian [UK]

Meticulous plotting, breathless pacing, paradoxes aplenty, and some surprisingly human dilemmas, all make this low-key sci-fi thriller well worth going back over again and again. It is a Primer-like triumph of ideas over budget.
Anton Bitel-Film4

Fiendishly convoluted and stylishly crafted, Time Crime is a low-budget sci-fi thriller from Spain that ably demonstrates the value of a neat idea, cleverly executed.
Wendy Ide-Times [UK]

Enjoyable, smartly directed time travel thriller with strong performances and a genuinely creepy atmosphere, though the twists are a little predictable.
Matthew Turner-ViewLondon

An invigoratingly imaginative and thrilling ride full of clever surprises and twists.

The title of Joseph Cedar's war drama Beaufort refers to the name of a fortress held by Israeli troops, during that country's contentious occupation of Lebanon from 1982-2000 -- an effort that Israel roundly lost. The film itself opens at the tail end of that occupation. It follows Liraz Liberti, the then-22-year-old leader of troops occupying Beaufort, as he and his subordinates come face to face with the necessity of withdrawal. As enemy fire bombards the fortress, Liraz recognizes that it will be necessary to evacuate, obliterating the structure that his men have spent two decades defending. Oshri Cohen, Itay Tiran, Eli Eltonyo, and Ohad Knoller co-star. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

New Review For Movie Beaufort

The soldiers feel stuck and so do we.
Wesley Morris-Boston Globe

Clearly something has gone MIA in moving from the small pictures into a cohesive big one.
Kamal Al-Solaylee-Globe and Mail

As long as soldiers have gone into battle they have struggled with the rightness of their actions and their purpose in the field -- no matter how firm their resolve at the outset.
Linda Barnard-Toronto Star

[A] blistering antiwar film.
Andrea Gronvall-Chicago Reader

The camera never leaves the beleaguered compound, and Beaufort itself becomes a character in the story, a surrealistic zone of tunnels, bunkers and sandbags, about as far from the possibility of heroism as possible.
Stephen Hunter-Washington Post

It makes an urgent case for the futility of most wars, which serve immediate political goals that afterward don't seem terribly important.
Jonathan F. Richards-Film.com

Cedar overcomes the generic characters and formulaic "which innocent will die next in an ironic twist" plotting by his attention to detail.
Hank Sartin-Time Out Chicago

Powerful portrait of an officer and his soldiers facing up to what it means to serve in an army of a fallible, democratic country that spins an explosive pyrrhic victory
Nora Lee Mandel-Film-Forward.com

It doesn't come like a full-length, filmed history lesson at all. In fact, it's a pretty fascinating, sometimes disturbing tale about the emotional and physical toll of combat.
Jeff Vice-Deseret News, Salt Lake City

Engaging war drama that subtly mixes in several different genres to intriguing effect, though it occasionally relies too heavily on cliches.
Matthew Turner-ViewLondon

The film is slow and rather too long (and a bit preachy), but always intense, and its intentions are certainly clear.
Liz Braun-Jam! Movies

In the end [it] isn't about victory or defeat... It's about surviving another day, doing one's job, and getting back to family.
Daniel M. Kimmel-The Jewish Advocate

Even if they do finally get to leave, the film's dispiriting message seems to tell us, in eight centuries there will probably be a new set of soldiers guarding Beaufort.
Rob Thomas-Capital Times (Madison, WI)

Culturally specific war movie leaves non-Israelis wondering what we missed
Marty Mapes-Movie Habit

This Oscar-nominated drama makes excellent use of its location and ensemble cast.
Patrick Peters-Empire Magazine

A fine war picture, one that spotlights war's wastefulness and futility, and humanizes its soldier characters.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

A war drama about waiting, and the director, Joseph Cedar, does a terrific job hanging danger and crushing tedium in the air, side by side.
Tim Robey-Daily Telegraph

Despite the unremitting focus on the claustrophobia of outpost life, it's hard to ignore the by-now hoary tropes of the war movie with which Cedar litters his screenplay.
Andrew Pulver-Guardian [UK]

An achingly honest account of the daily fears faced by soldiers.

Movie Title : Sicko
Release Date : Jun 29, 2007 Wide
Genre Movie :Documentary,Special Interest
Mpaa Rating : PG-13

Actors :Michael Moore

After exploring the predominance of violence in American culture in Bowling for Columbine and taking a critical look at the September 11th attacks in Fahrenheit 9/11, activist filmmaker Michael Moore turns his attentions toward the topic of health care in the United States in this documentary that weighs the plight of the uninsured (and the insured who must deal with abuse from insurance companies) against the record-breaking profits of the pharmaceutical industry. Moore interviews a number of people who have been left broke by medical bills even though they were fully insured, and explains how the corporate drive for profits has left numerous people in financial and medical disarray. After hearing that detainees in Guantanamo have access to free health care, Moore assembles a group of World Trade Center rescue workers to travel to Cuba in order to get the medical help they need for ailments they incurred in 2001. Moore's film debuted at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

New Review For Movie Sicko

If other countries can provide their people with universal health care, why can't we? If we can't, who are we?
Lisa Schwarzbaum-Entertainment Weekly

Though the focus occasionally strays, the film emerges as a fascinating exploration and powerful indictment of a pressing national problem. This is Moore's biggest, best and most impassioned work.
Claudia Puig-USA Today

'Sicko' is a quieter, more focused and less feral beast than its predecessor, 'Fahrenheit 9/11', but that's not saying much.
Dave Calhoun-Time Out

One may quibble with Mr. Moore's anecdotal oversimplifications and his xenophilic fantasies, but he has struck a socio-psychic nerve in the body politic, generating a feeling of outrage that seems to be reverberating in every theater.
Andrew Sarris-New York Observer

This is a movie to see in a theater. It'a group experience. All through the show you'll hear people laughing, crying, muttering, cheering, sighing, swearing, and gasping. And at the end, chances are they'll be on their feet applauding.
Jonathan F. Richards-Film.com

More humble than Fahrenheit 9/11 and as enthralling as Bowling For Columbine, Sicko is another target hit square on the nose for America's premier documentalist.
Ali Gray-TheShiznit.co.uk

While much of Sicko is certainly propaganda, that should not deter anyone from seeing it or giving some credence to what Moore is saying, because what he is talking about is very real and very important.
Joshua Starnes-ComingSoon.net

Saddening while it still bristles with satire, "Sicko" does dodge some of the larger political questions about healthcare reform. Plus, the Cuba stunt mars what is, up to that point, a relatively stunt-free film.
Nick Rogers-Suite101.com

Moore depoliticizes the health care crisis by humanizing it, and drops the polemic in favor of a plea: for us to care about each other a little more.
Ian Buckwalter-DCist

By now, it should only matter that Moore has been right about every social ill he's addressed.
Kelly Vance-East Bay Express

ranks among [Moore's] best
Jay Antani-Cinema Writer

Laughs are thin on the ground, but this is a must-see by a film-maker at the height of his powers.
Kat Brown-thelondonpaper

The body politic deserves a finer thermometer than Michael Moore's camera
Fernando F. Croce-CinePassion

Michael Moore takes on the US health care system. His in your face style may annoy some people, but he lets you know he's in favor of socialized medicine and, to be fair, he wisely presents AMA spokespersons, doctors and others who claim put health care i
Jennifer Merin-About.com

For the first time, the targets of Moore's film need not fear the bearded, heavyset man; instead they should be worried about his audience.
Sean Gandert-Paste Magazine

...primarily comes off as an uneven effort that's sporadically as superfluous as it is interesting...
David Nusair-Reel Film Reviews

Moore's mere presence becomes politicizing, but this film attempts to make people realize the health of people in this country should have nothing to do with income and politics.
Jeff Bayer-The Scorecard Review

While no rational person would believe Castro and Hillary are to be exalted, its medical horror stories are absolutely believable by anyone who's dealt with an HMO.
Bruce Bennett-Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

Prepare to laugh (nervously), cry and be outraged.
Marlow Stern-Manhattan Movie Magazine

The film contains the usual Moore plusses and minuses, now familiar to anyone who's watched even one of his films.
Lawrence Toppman-Charlotte Observer

Otro contundente alegato de Michael Moore que (...) conmueve y entretiene en partes iguales, atrapando a lo largo de sus dos horas.
Enrique Buchichio-Uruguay Total

Moore has again made a film which, though basically sound in logic, sugars the pill in a way which seems suspect in its determination to suggest that, as far as healthcare is concerned, America is bad and everywhere else is good.
Derek Malcolm-This is London

A devastating exposure of America's iniquitous healthcare system, coolly marshalled and amusingly detailed by Moore.
Anthony Quinn-Independent

Moore is rightly celebrated for his elaborately staged stunts and this film's highlight, involving a boat-trip to Cuba, is as hilarious as it is disturbing.

Filmmaker David Sington merges the magnificence of science with the compelling drama of the human quest for advancement with this fascinating and visually stunning meditation on the historic Apollo space program. In the four remarkable years between 1968 and 1972, American history took a defining turn as nine NASA spacecraft made the trip to the moon, and 12 bold explorers became the first men ever to set foot on ground beyond planet Earth. In this documentary, space enthusiast Sington allows the surviving crew members from each Apollo mission the unique opportunity to recount their memories of those missions in their own words as vintage, original NASA film footage offers a tantalizing glimpse of this extraordinary era in American history. Candid interviews with the astronauts reveal the sensitive and fun-loving souls whose fearlessness would lead a nation into a new era of progress, and audio recordings from Mission Control lend a newfound sense of poignancy to a variety of oft-recounted historical milestones. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

New Review For Movie In the Shadow of the Moon

David Sington more than makes up for the straightforward nature of his film with the quality of its interviews and plenitude of staggering archive footage.
Dave Calhoun-Time Out

The movie fills us with wonder, and pride, and a tugging sense of loss.
Jonathan F. Richards-Film.com

Uniquely, almost impressively dull.
Joshua Rothkopf-Time Out New York

Successfully recaptures the feeling of what made the Apollo missions so special.
James Berardinelli-ReelViews

The astronaut interviews are fun and occasionally moving...
Reece Pendleton-Chicago Reader

The contrast between the near-surreal space footage and the down-to-earth men who were actually in those spacesuits is awe-inspiring.
Tom Long-Detroit News

Lofty recap of the Apollo moon program.
Charles Cassady-Common Sense Media

It never hurts to be reminded of our potential and our insignicance, and who better to do the reminding than clean-cut American boys who've covered up the entire world with their thumbs.
Robert Davis-Paste Magazine

I wouldn't have missed this chance to revisit one of earth's most significant encounters with deep space for anything.
Margaret Pomeranz-At the Movies (Australia)

At the heart of the film is the beautifully remastered footage of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing (some previously unseen), interspersed with testimonials from not only two of the men who were there, who describe their innermost thoughts and feelings.
Urban Cinefile Critics-Urban Cinefile

The crowd-pleaser has enough ambition to pitch a one-size-fits-all philosophy based on the Apollo crew's revelation that looking down from space, our problems seem trivial.
Amy Nicholson-I.E. Weekly

Thoroughly engaging documentary that takes a fascinating look at the moon landings using some breathtaking never before seen footage and some remarkably candid interviews with the surviving astronauts.
Matthew Turner-ViewLondon

Inspiring.
Victoria Kettner-thelondonpaper

Respectful, enthusiastic and occasionally rather touching as the men, now in their seventies, recall how it felt up there. Yet the really important question never gets asked: what was it all for?
Anthony Quinn-Independent

The shots of the Moon, even after so many effects-heavy studio films have tried to recreate the look, are uncanny.
Sukhdev Sandhu-Daily Telegraph

Stirring stuff, packed with as many beautiful images as portentous outbursts.
Karl French-Financial Times

There is something thrilling and moving in this documentary about the great era of the Nasa moon landings.
Peter Bradshaw-Guardian [UK]

You probably won't find a more comprehensive document of space exploration on film.
Kevin Maher-Times [UK]

A solid, engrossing affair intercut with footage from the time, including live coverage of that famous day in July 1969 when Armstrong and Aldrin first walked on the lunar surface.
David Edwards-Daily Mirror [UK]

A timely tribute to the 12 men who landed on the moon during the 1960s and 1970s. The remastered, rediscovered documentary footage is incredible, although the absence of Neil Armstrong is disappointing.
Jamie Russell-Film4

The heart of Sington's film is the dry humour and boundless humility of his interviewees.
Paul Arendt-BBC

A bunch of old guys talking about the old days - but what old days. An absorbing doc from a filmmaker who knows a good story, and a handful of men who've lived the best story of all.
Jayne Nelson-Total Film

This wonderful documentary succeeds as a reminder of human endeavour.
Ross Bennett-Empire Magazine

It shows how great we were, once upon a time.

American Movie director Chris Smith makes the shift from documentary specialist to feature-film director with this Hindi-language drama concerning a young hotel employee whose obsession with an opulent swimming pool at a nearby house gradually turns his life upside down. The affluent hills of Panjim, Goa, in India are the absolute lap of luxury, and when a young boy working at a nearby hotel discovers an extravagant swimming pool, his awe is soon offset by the arrival of a mysterious family at the home. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

New Review For Movie The Pool

Patekar's ability to convey stoic forbearance with so little apparent effort, is one of the marvellous rewards of this intricately textured and compelling film.
Greg Quill-Toronto Star

A miraculous, American-made Hindi film that is every bit as tranquil as the blue-green reservoir that serves as its abiding metaphor.
Stephen Cole-Globe and Mail

Reality and fiction fuse like watercolors in this quietly compelling narrative feature.
Andrea Gronvall-Chicago Reader

It's a movie about a time, a place and a situation that isn't going to change soon. [Director] Smith takes his time to establish the people, the landscape and the striking contrast between the lives of the very rich and the very poor.
John Hartl-Seattle Times

It's a bit schematic and sweet-natured, perhaps to a fault, yet the faces linger.
Michael Phillips-Chicago Tribune

By pushing himself far outside his Midwestern comfort zone and working with non-actors in a language he doesn't speak, Smith has created a fable with universal appeal.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

Though plot-wise nothing much happens, Smith elicits strong sense of place and teases out the film's themes ...
Alistair Harkness-Scotsman

It's a subtle, truthful, moving story of class, ambition, friendship and romantic yearning, extremely well acted by a largely non-professional cast.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

[A] wholly unobjectionable, likeably performed but faintly soporific drama ...
Tim Robey-Daily Telegraph

Shot with a level of realism we rarely seen in Indian cinema, this film combines sharply engaging characters with an involving story that really gets under the skin. A
Rich Cline-Contactmusic.com

Told with real warmth and charm, this is a confidently handled tale boosted by natural, engaging performances from Venkatesh and Jahangir Badshah as his young friend.
Allan Hunter-Daily Express

It tells you a lot about South India, its essentially rural culture and the stifling poverty of its underclass.
Derek Malcolm-This is London

Smith's film is natural and unforced, with a winning fluency and calm observational style.
Peter Bradshaw-Guardian [UK]

Hopefully Smith will make more movies in this laid-back, poetic style.
David Jenkins-Little White Lies

Here are filigree detailing, pure-and-simple performances (especially from Venkatesh Chavan as the boy) and a subtly lambent moral tale ...
Nigel Andrews-Financial Times

A fascinating narrative set in modern-day Indian and full of insights into a class-riven country.
David Parkinson-Empire Magazine

It tells a tale so sweetly elemental and classic that it could pretty much have happened along at any point in storytelling history.
Hannah McGill-The List

Satisfying tale of marginalized youth struggling to survive alone in a cold world and dreaming of success despite all odds against them.
Dennis Schwartz-Ozus' World Movie Reviews

Shimmers silently. A quietly remarkable film, for its seeming simplicity, its careful rhythms, and its interest in a place and its spirit.
Brian Gibson-Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Canada)

The Pool is beautiful to look at, and, for what it conveys about human nature, to experience.
Liz Braun-Jam! Movies

worth seeing, primarily for its beautiful Goa setting
John A. Nesbit-Old School Reviews

Based on a story by Randy Russell, The Pool is a low-key film that often feels like a documentary...
